To help you tune into your body with Somatic Experiencing®, I may ask you a series of questions about your bodily sensations. Then, we can begin a dialog with your body’s inner wisdom. When you work with your body awareness during a session, you can learn the skill of tracking physical sensations so that you can listen to your internal process and ultimately achieve a positive and calm state of mind.
I will also work with you and combine other approaches as needed like EMDR Therapy, Attachment Therapy, Craniosacral Therapy, Mindfulness Therapy and traditional talk therapy to support your healing process. In order to provide the best depression treatment possible, our sessions may start out working with one modality and end up with a different one depending upon your needs – a major benefit of working with an integrative therapy model. The more we work through the depression treatment process, you will have the chance to gain greater control and a deeper understanding of your mind/body experience.

I’ve been to therapy and I don’t want to revisit the past.
We don’t need to revisit the past, especially when we work with the Somatic Experiencing approach. During depression treatment, we will instead focus on understanding your triggers to depressed thought patterns. In addition, as you deeply listen to the energy through your body, you can begin to gain insight about how you struggle and how to cope.
Peter Levine, who created Somatic Experiencing, said, “Stress is not in the event, it’s in the nervous system.” The nervous system is energy and when we listen to this by tuning into the body, it changes one’s perception. This supports the healing process. If your past comes up during our sessions, it may only be in the context of the present and the struggles that you want to resolve today. Past patterns often teach us about present day occurrences that are beneficial and necessary for our growth, our healing and our freedom.
